Who I Am ≠ What I Do

We are human beings, not human doings.  The main problem with becoming a “human doing” is that when you don’t, you aren’t.  When we forget this important difference, we risk losing ourselves in the process.

This plays out in several subtle ways…we only feel good about ourselves when we perform well, we take care of our business better than we take care of ourselves, commitments to family and friends consistently take second place to business opportunities, we equate our value with our bank balance, and work time becomes all the time.

Although I’ve never met anyone whose goal was to become a human doing, I have met many who found themselves there.  Don’t become one of them!

Lewis Carroll once wrote “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.”   In life and in business, we get done what we focus on.  Think about what you value and how you want to be remembered. Then make a list of the roles in your life (parent, business leader, etc.) and set specific goals for each role.  Determine the steps necessary to accomplish them and then make sure they are reflected in how you invest your time and money.

Live intentionally.
